About us
The process of learning, personal growth, and self-discovery can be deeply therapeutic, as it helps us understand ourselves better, overcome challenges, and build emotional resilience.
Unleash Your Potential with The Therapeutic Tutors!
At The Therapeutic Tutors, we believe in the powerful bond between humans and animals. Our therapeutic tutors, are humans and horses. Our equine colleagues are the real teachers, creating a unique and supportive environment for growth and learning. We act as facilitators, guiding these interactions to empower clients of all ages.
A Non-Profit Dedicated to Equine Assisted Services:
As a non-profit organization, we are passionate about providing accessible and effective personal development programs. We offer two specialized approaches:
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP): Equine-assisted psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach that utilizes horses to facilitate emotional healing, personal growth, and skill development in a safe and supportive environment. It draws upon modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Somatic Experiencing, and Polyvagal Theory to address trauma and promote healing.
Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL): Build confidence, communication skills, and emotional well-being through interaction with our gentle horses.
More Than Just Pets:
Our therapeutic tutors are carefully chosen to provide the most effective support. We work closely with a team of mental health professionals to ensure our programs are tailored to meet the individual needs of each client.
Benefits of Therapeutic Tutoring:
Reduced Anxiety and Stress
Improved Social Skills and Communication
Enhanced Confidence and Self-Esteem

An Equine Assisted Interaction (EAI) is an experiential learning approach or specific form of therapy that promotes personal growth and development through interactions with horses. It is a powerful tool for enhancing self-awareness, communication skills, leadership, and teamwork. EAIs can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
Improving self-esteem and confidence
Developing leadership skills
Enhancing communication and teamwork skills
Processing trauma and grief
Addressing mental health issues, in combination with support from your own mental health professional, such as anxiety and depression
Building a stronger connection with oneself and others
Understanding at a deeper level relational ruptures and how to repair authentically
What is an Equine Assisted Interaction (EAI)?
Sometimes it can be hard to imagine what equine assisted interventions may look, sound and feel like. One documentary on Netflix Captures the essence of how facilitated time with horses can be therapeutic.
‘Silent Comrade’ follows three soldiers with PTSD as they seek treatment with therapist Claudia Swierczek on a horse farm in Brandenburg.
🌿 Our Approach
Connect. Reflect. Inspire.
At The Therapeutic Tutors, we deliver relational, systemic, and equine-facilitated interventions for children, young people, and adults across education, care, community, and secure settings. Our work supports emotional wellbeing, relational safety, and behavioural change by combining equine-facilitated learning with systemic practice, ethology, and ecology. We do not take a “fixing” approach—our role is to create the conditions for awareness, connection, and change, so that individuals and systems can recognise their patterns, retain their agency, and discover their strengths. We work both on site and within the systems we are commissioned into, ensuring the work is applied, relevant, and able to create change where it is actually needed.
Our core values - Connect, Reflect, Inspire - anchor every interaction.
We hold the spirit of The Secret Garden: that change doesn’t come from being told what to do, but from being in the right conditions for growth. In our work, horses and environments help create those conditions - inviting connection, awareness, and change without force.
🌱 Connect
Healing begins in relationship.
Connection sits at the centre of our work - between people, horses, and the wider system.
Horses, as highly attuned social animals, respond to what is happening in the present moment. Through an ethological lens, we understand their behaviour as communication - not something to control, but something to learn from.
This creates opportunities for clients to experience relational safety, co-regulation, and trust - often without needing words.
We support individuals and systems to notice how they show up in relationship, and to experience new ways of connecting that feel safer, clearer, and more sustainable.
🌿 Reflect
Awareness creates choice.
Our work creates space to slow down and notice - internally, relationally, and environmentally.
Horses act as sensitive, immediate feedback systems, reflecting patterns of behaviour, emotion, and interaction. By paying attention to these responses, clients begin to recognise their own patterns and the wider dynamics they are part of.
We also consider the ecology of each setting - how space, structure, and context influence behaviour and wellbeing.
Reflection is not about judgement. It’s about making sense of what’s happening, so that different choices become possible.
🌼 Inspire
Change becomes possible.
As connection and reflection deepen, something shifts.
Clients begin to feel more capable, more connected, and more able to influence their relationships and environments. Small changes ripple outward - into families, classrooms, care settings, and teams.
Horses often evoke confidence, curiosity, and emotional courage. But more importantly, the work helps people carry that back into their everyday lives.
Inspiration, for us, is not a moment - it’s a movement.
From insight into action. From isolation into connection. From surviving into participating.
