Our mission at The Therapeutic Tutors is to make a positive impact on society by using the power of equine-assisted services to support individuals facing life's challenges
🌿 Our Approach
Connect. Reflect. Inspire.
At The Therapeutic Tutors, we deliver relational, systemic, and equine-facilitated interventions for children, young people, and adults across education, care, community, and secure settings.
Our work supports emotional wellbeing, relational safety, and behavioural change by combining equine-facilitated learning with systemic practice, ethology, and ecology. We do not take a “fixing” approach—our role is to create the conditions for awareness, connection, and change, so that individuals and systems can recognise their patterns, retain their agency, and discover their strengths.
We work both on site and within the systems we are commissioned into, ensuring the work is applied, relevant, and able to create change where it is actually needed.
Our core values—Connect, Reflect, Inspire—anchor every interaction.
Our stance
We do not position ourselves as fixing people.
Change is not done to people—it is developed with them.
Our role is to create the conditions for individuals and systems to become more self-aware, understand their patterns, and recognise their capacity for change.
🌱 Connect
Healing begins in relationship.
Connection sits at the centre of our work—between people, horses, and the wider systems they are part of.
Horses, as highly attuned social animals, respond to what is happening in the present moment. Their behaviour offers real-time feedback that supports relational safety, co-regulation, and trust—often without the need for words.
🌿 Reflect
Awareness creates choice.
Horses act as sensitive mirrors, reflecting patterns of behaviour, emotion, and interaction.
By slowing down and paying attention—to self, others, and environment—clients begin to understand their patterns and the systems they are part of.
Reflection is not about judgement. It is about making sense of what is happening, so that different choices become possible.
🌼 Inspire
Change becomes possible.
As connection and reflection deepen, clients begin to feel more capable, more connected, and more able to influence their relationships and environments.
Small changes ripple outward—into families, classrooms, and care systems.
Inspiration, for us, is not a moment—it is a movement.
Why horses?
Horses offer immediate, non-verbal feedback that reflects emotional states, behaviour, and relational patterns in real time.
As highly attuned social animals, they respond to presence, regulation, and intention - making them powerful partners in developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and relational safety.
Ethology & Ecology
Our work is grounded in:
Ethology – understanding natural horse behaviour
Ecology – recognising how environment shapes behaviour and regulation
This ensures our work is humane, responsive, and transferable into real-world settings.
"I am understanding myself better and how I respond and react to things. The being with another animal and matching our breath. Calming with a horse. Yeah, it can work both ways – energy up or energy down. I feel different now. In a good way. I can feel.”
